General description of the collection: The Uzal W. Ent collection documents the research for his book, FIGHTING ON THE BRINK : DEFENSE OF THE PUSAN PERIMETER. The work recalls the first phase of the Korean War (July-September 1950) from the standpoint of the soldiers and marines who fought in it. Ent contacted over 4,000 veterans from the: Eighth (8th) Army; 1st Cavalry Division; 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 24th, and 25th Infantry Divisions; 5th Regimental Combat Team; 1st Marine Division; and other support units. The recollections of about 500 Army and Marine veterans are in the collection along with reviews, comments, and correspondence (1994-1996). The collection contains 230 photographs and 67 negatives sent from veterans and also those used in the book. Related documents regarding the Pusan perimenter include: 8th Army combat effectiveness guidelines (1949); 27TH INFANTRY REGIMENT ANNUAL UNIT HISTORY (1949); 8th Army training exercises (1950); and HQ, 27TH INFANTRY COMBAT EFFECTIVENESS REPORT (1950).

Uzal W. Ent was a United States (U.S.) Army and Pennsylvania National Guard officer. He attended the United States Military Academy (USMA), graduated from Officer Candidate School (OCS), and became a 2nd lieutenant of infantry in 1949. He was assigned to the 27th Infantry Regiment in Japan and in Korea (1949-1951). After various other assignments, he became an officer in the 110th Infantry Regiment in Ulm, Germany until his resignation from active duty in 1953. Ent was commissioned in the 28th I...
